Tonight on the season premiere of the Fox hit series Glee, Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison) tries to inspire the students of the New Directions to get back on track toward winning a national show choir title. The glee club needs three new members to replace former members, Sam (Chord Overstreet), Lauren (Ashley Fink) and Quinn (Diana Agron). Quinn has left the club and started hanging with the outcasts but it's obvious that her new circle of friends will last about as long as her pink hair.
At the end of the episode, she watches the New Directions during their performance. It's clear that she wants to come back glee club again. Santana (Naya Rivera) is banned from glee club after she helps The Cheerios set one of the inspirational purple pianos on fire.
Blaine (Darren Criss) joins New Directions much to Kurt's (Chris Colfer) delight. Emma (Jayma Mays) seems to have gotten a handle on her OCD, and she moves forward in her relationship with Will, while she encourages Kurt and Rachel (Lea Michele) to apply to college at the New York Academy of Dramatic Arts (NYADA).
At first Kurt and Rachel are excited about the idea, until they meet the other prospective students and discover that they are no longer the biggest fish in the pond. But the experience only strengthens their desire to get into the school. Kurt decides to run for Student Council president.
One of the students that Kurt and Rachel met is Lindsey, one of the winners of the Oxygen reality completion series, The Glee Project.
The only thing that's bigger than Sue's (Jane Lynch) ego this year is her ambition. She is running for a congressional seat and is now trying to sabotage, not only the New Directions but also funding for the arts in schools.
This was a great beginning for the new season of Glee and fans can't wait to see what the writers and producers have planned for this year. And speaking of producers, Marti Noxon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) worked on this week's episode.
Some of the musical highlights in this episode included Blaine's cover of Tom Jones's "It's Not Unusual" and the glee club's rendition of "We Got the Beat" by The Go-Gos.
Tune in next week's episode Tuesday at 8pm/7c on Fox. Fans will get to see the return of Rachel's birth mother (Idina Menzel).
